About the Department > The Firehouse

The Main Street FirehouseFranklin Borough Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1 currently operates out of one fire station, which is located in the Municipal Building on Main Street (Route 271) in the middle of the borough. The Municipal Building is also home to Conemaugh Valley Regional Ambulance Association, Inc.

This is the fourth fire station for the department since its founding in 1895. The Municipal Building was constructed in 1929 and was state of the art at the time of its construction. In the winter of 1996, volunteer members completed construction of a $23,000 single-bay addition to house additional fire apparatus. Volunteer members then spent the next year renovating the lounge, sleeping quarters, locker room, and communications room.

The fire department currently utilizes two apparatus bays capable of housing five vehicles, a gear locker room with a gear washer/extractor, a hose tower, a storage garage, a communications room, a television lounge, and an office. The meeting room is shared with borough council and the apparatus bays are shared with the ambulance service.
