About the Department > Apparatus Fleet

Franklin Borough Fire Rescue currently operates three apparatus: a combination pumper/rescue, a combination pumper/aerial truck, and a utility/personnel squad. All three apparatus are owned by the Franklin Borough Volunteer Fire Company, No. 1 and are housed in the Main Street firehouse.

Engine 5-1 (Engine/Rescue)

With the successful use of our first pumper/rescue, the department ordered a new replacement on December 13, 2006, thanks in part to the receipt of a federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The department received the new apparatus in late November 2007 from Four Guys Fire Apparatus of Meyersdale PA, which built the rescue/pumper body on a 2007 Spartan Gladiator Evolution chassis. Click here to view the preliminary blueprints.

The new rescue/engine features numerous safety features, including a fully-enclosed cab, reflective striping on the bottom of cab doors and on the front and rear of the apparatus, scene lighting that can be turned on before exiting the cab, a ladder rack that lowers the ladders closer to the ground, and fire attack hose that is also closer to the ground which prevents firefighters from having to climb the apparatus.

The new apparatus has a rearmount pump capable of pumping 1500 gallons of water per minute and carries 500 gallons of water. There is a Class A firefighting foam system with a 30 gallon foam tank and is capable of supplying foam for three 1¾" and one 2½" attack lines. It is also be equipped with a new breathing air fill station, diesel-powered electric generator, and light tower.
